Each category is worth up to 10 points: Creativity: Did you take the original SMW and bend it to form new, creative puzzles, clever areas, and tricky obstacles Difficulty: Is the difficulty just right? Is it not insanely tough, but at the same time, not insanely easy? Appeal: Does the level look nice? Are there any graphical glitches? Functionality: Does the level work properly? Are there any retarded places that are unfair/can kill the player too easily? FUN: Is your level FUN OVERALL? Functionality: | 07/10 | In one part of the level, the camera wouldn't scroll up, and I died. If I ---------------+-------+ stayed and waited, the P-switch timer would run out and I'd be stuck. Fun: | 04/10 | Figuring out where to go and panicking about the P-Switch running out was ---------------+-------+ somewhat fun. Total: | 22/50 | Overall, a decent level with some creativity here and there. Shine Forest (V2) by Brad172 Rubric: |Score: | Comments: ---------------+-------+---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Creativity: | 05/10 | The idea of having the tops of the trees overlap was pretty cool. I also ---------------+-------+ liked how you made the ground "weave" in and out of the FG later on. Difficulty: | 05/10 | This level was somewhat hard for the wrong reasons. The trees conceal the ---------------+-------+ enemies, and since the player can't see them, they run into them and die. Appeal: | 06/10 | The palette is nice, but the "dirt" part of the grass needs to be darker. ---------------+-------+ On the other hand, the palette of the cave and the decorations look great. Functionality: | 07/10 | Again, hiding enemies behind the trees are a bad move, since it kills the ---------------+-------+ player unfairly. Also, in the caves I could walk through the steep slopes. Fun: | 05/10 | The level was for sure enjoyable; I just wish that you made the secret exit ---------------+-------+ more of a challenge, instead of just making it a one-screen walk. Difficulty: | 02/10 | The level was fairly short and very easy. ---------------+-------+ Appeal: | 02/10 | The level design was a bit flat in places and there was nearly no decora- ---------------+-------+ tion. The palette was the same. Functionality: | 10/10 | It wasn't possible to get stuck or die in unexpected places. ---------------+-------+ Fun: | 03/10 | Even though the level was a bit short, I still had some fun out of it. It ---------------+-------+ still seemed very mundane in some places, however. Total: | 18/50 | Adding a few puzzles, making the level harder, polishing the level, and e- ---------------+-------/ ven changing the palette would improve this level. ____________________________________________________ 6. Appeal: | 06/10 | The palettes are just right, but there was some "cut-off" hiding around the ---------------+-------+ level (especially around the water area). Functionality: | 07/10 | There was some slowdown here and there, as well as sprite limitations. ---------------+-------+ Fun: | 05/10 | I absolutely had fun with this level, as it flowed together nicely. ---------------+-------+ Total: | 28/50 | A solid level that can fit in a regular ROMHack. ---------------+-------/ ____________________________________________________ 7. Difficulty: | 04/10 | I'm going to be completely honest and say that this level was completely ---------------+-------+ too easy. There were only about 20-25 enemies in this short level, total. Appeal: | 07/10 | The way this level looked was amazing; I also liked how some tiles would o- ---------------+-------+ verlap in places. Functionality: | 10/10 | Nothing broken here. ---------------+-------+ Fun: | 04/10 | Water levels are fun if created right; however, this one, combined with the ---------------+-------+ fact that there were only 20-or-so enemies provided a dull experience. Functionality: | 08/10 | I somehow managed to die by swimming into a slope with a shell, just above ---------------+-------+ an exit pipe. Fun: | 04/10 | An ordinary level; really nothing to have fun about. ---------------+-------+ Total: | 26/50 | ..So wait, let me get this straight; in hell, the devil is Bowser's robot? ---------------+-------/ ____________________________________________________ 9. Chalk Road Quarry (V6) - RedToonLink Rubric: |Score: | Comments: ---------------+-------+---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Creativity: | 05/10 | The transparent pipe maze was pretty creative and the puzzles were as well. ---------------+-------+ Difficulty: | 06/10 | The #1 leading cause of death in this hack were those damned invisible coin ---------------+-------+ blocks. And one time, a chuck fell out of nowhere and killed me. Appeal: | 06/10 | This category could've gotten a 7, but in the pipe maze, activating the ---------------+-------+ silver P-switch and collecting the underwater munchers makes "cut-off". Sunset Fortress (V2.5) - Neutron Rubric: |Score: | Comments: ---------------+-------+---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Creativity: | 03/10 | Other than the beginning segment with the P-Switch, I didn't find anything ---------------+-------+ else creative in the level. Difficulty: | 08/10 | Adding a tad more enemies would make the difficulty just right. ---------------+-------+ Appeal: | 07/10 | The different environments, palettes, and the backgrounds looked great. ---------------+-------+ Functionality: | 08/10 | In the grassland part, you can jump through the upside-down steep slopes ---------------+-------+ and skip through segment needing to get the P-Switch. Fun: | 05/10 | Although the level looked great, I didn't have a great amount of fun on it ---------------+-------+ since it still seemed like a bunch of left-to-right levels put together. Difficulty: | 08/10 | The difficulty was close to being perfect, but that section where I had to ---------------+-------+ chase the raft was a bit unfair, since it kept despawning. Appeal: | 07/10 | The level(s) looked great; my only thought was that the underwater palette ---------------+-------+ shading may have been a bit off. Functionality: | 06/10 | There were two-three places that I could get stuck in the raft section if I ---------------+-------+ did something wrong. In the underwater section, I could swim in the slope. Fun: | 06/10 | I really had fun with this level, but the few functionality problems an- ---------------+-------+ noyed me. Functionality: | 08/10 | In one level, sprite limitations striked. In another level, vertical scroll ---------------+-------+ being disabled happened. Also, there was a muncher wall that needed a hit. Fun: | 03/10 | I didn't have too much fun. Trying to find out how to get around was a bit ---------------+-------+ of a buzzkill. Also, there were a few design errors. ---------------+-------+ Functionality: | 06/10 | The player can get stuck by being Small and hitting the two feather blocks ---------------+-------+ at once. Also, the sprites can walk on land that supposed to be passable. Fun: | 04/10 | Not really much fun to go around. What's worse is that the level is short ---------------+-------+ which also shortens my "Fun" rating. Total: | 20/50 | My eyes burn from all the pink-ness.
