This is an interest check for a story idea I had while I was on vacation.  The story will take place in the Metroid universe, between the events of Metroid Prime 3 and Metroid 2.  You will be members of a squad of upper-level Federation Troopers (think Orbital Drop Shock Troopers from the Halo universe minus the orbital drop part) sent on a recovery mission to a Federation base that has been attacked by Space Pirates.  There will be no magic or anything of that sort in this universe, so as such, some of you may need to create new characters.   Feel free to use existing characters of yours but since this is heavily A/U, you'll likely have to modify them.  I'm looking for the squad to be about 8-10 units big, and I'm reserving two slots for myself.

Fights will take place with no specified system in mind.  There is no HP/MP/Stats/etc. in place here and I'm not planning to have circumstances kill anyone's characters, unless you want your character to go down that road.

Since you're all part of a squad, everyone should have their own specialties, ie, demolitions, heavy weapons, Phazon Enhancement Device Suit (this is Metroid after all), stuff like that.  This way you can build your characters to have unique "abilities".  Another thing is that since soldiers are usually referred to by last name, you'll need to have last names for the characters, however this can be averted by making up a nickname for the character that we can say the squad has given them over time.  I know I'm planning nicknames for my characters because I think it'll be fun.

Being that this is the Metroid universe, a few things should be mentioned.  At no point will Samus make an appearance and Metroids still exist and may very well be found at some point in the story.  Samus doesn't really have a place here since this story would be about the squad and not her.  The federation can do things on their own every once in a while.

Not sure what else to put for the interest check since the rest of my ideas are directly about the story, which I'd rather get into when the thing actually starts up.  I guess if you're interested you can build your characters and post them here.
