================= ==SMWC IDOL ROUND 3== ================= Judging by Supertails ============== ==NORTH DIVISION== ============== ==Submission 1== Song: Donkey Kong Country - Bad Boss Boogie Author: Slash Man Quality - 8.5/10 Not too much to say about this one, other than that it's extremely accurate like your other ports from the DKC series. Follows several time signature changes. Impressive as sample ports are, especially from SNES games, something like an actual composition or remix would've boosted this area. Complexity - 3.5/4 Lots of time signature changes, many samples, and length over a minute help this category a ton. It's only hurt a bit by the somewhat repetitive nature of the song. Functionality - 5.5/6 Cutoff is reserved for percussion and echo. Yoshi compatible. OVERALL: 17.5/20 ============== ==SOUTH DIVISION== ============== ==Submission 1== Song: Final Destination - Piano Version Author: Blind Devil Quality - 8/10 Really interesting piece - like classical music, it portrays a range of emotions, going from sadness to hope and feeling like a journey. Your use of piano through multiple channels was a smart move here. Nevertheless, it does feel a little empty as a piano version of a song. Neat to hear an original though. Complexity - 3/4 As mentioned, the lack of channels and the fact that it's piano hurt this area a bit, but the length, key signature, and the fact that it's custom buoy it. Functionality - 6/6 With no channel cutoff, proper header and everything else, no problem here. OVERALL: 17/20 ==Submission 2== Song: Donkey Kong Country 3 - Enchanted Riverbank Author: Masashi27 Quality - 7/10 It's always great to hear sample ports from the Donkey Kong Country series, and this is no exception. Everything from the volume to the huge range of samples is superbly done and it's of a great song to boot. As mentioned with Slash Man's submission, this area would be improved if it wasn't just a sample port from a SNES song. However, this port has some accidental usage which were not supposed to be used in the round, bumping this score down. Complexity - 4/4 Ridiculous amount of samples and tons of ADSR commands in what's clearly a very difficult port. Functionality - 4.5/6 I'm not sure why it would cause a crash, but regardless, you need the echo buffer. It's frustrating to run into technical difficulties, but we need to make sure the ports work for sure and unfortunately this category is hurt. While cutoff is reserved for ambience, since it's so prevelant in the song, the cutoff is a lot more noticable. OVERALL: 15.5/20
