================= ==SMWC IDOL FINAL ROUND== ================= Judging by Supertails ==Submission 1== Song: The Champs - Tequila Author: Slash Man Quality - 9/10 I question some of the depth of the sample choices, like the saxaphone and guitar, but these are largely due to SMW's own sample and sample size restrictions. My reservations for the track pretty much end there. Pretty much everyone should recognize this track and it was ported exceptionally well with a huge amount of samples. Of course, the real icing on the cake is the actual recorded "Te-qui-la!" Given its verses, it would've been easy to loop and it's a bit frustrating that it wasn't, but still, top-notch. Complexity - 4/4 As mentioned, lots of samples (including recorded ones) and commands in a song over two minutes long. Functionality - 5/6 Instrument cutoff, but is mostly reserved to bass and percussion. Docked a bit for the looping too - it's harder to see it working in a hack without it. OVERALL: 18/20 ==Submission 2== Song: Stratovarius - Stratofortress Author: Blind Devil Quality - 8/10 Pretty nice stuff. I'm not as keen on the source material as some, but the way the port transferred including the electric guitar samples was quite effective. The nature of the track and a lot of channels leads to very quick, often repeating notes, and in a song of this length, it can get a bit grating after awhile. Otherwise though, kudos for getting a song like this in SMW. There are some moments I really like, such as :45. Complexity - 3.5/4 Given the sheer length of the song, the insert size, and the many samples used, this is worthy of a good score. I am a bit iffy on the slightly grating/repetitive nature of the song though. Functionality - 4.5/6 Unfortunately, the channels that do get cut are fairly important (i.e. chords, strings) so it takes a hit here. Looping this would probably have been difficult, though I think it would've been worth a shot. OVERALL: 16/20
